Interactive maps are everywhere. See some of the best published recently

Amazing week, in terms of map creation, as you can see in today’s selection. Besides the ones developed for breaking news topics such as the tragedy in the Philippines (more on that here), or the specials around the 50 years after JFK’s assassination, there’s also University of Maryland’s impressive Global Forest Change study.

Twelve years of global deforestation, wildfires, windstorms, insect infestations and more, all captured in a new set of forest disturbance maps created from billions of pixels acquired by the Landsat 7 satellite. Prof. Matthew Hansen and his team at the University of Maryland in College Park, Md., led the study published here.
