Recent interactive maps used to tell stories

Interactive maps are gaining their rightful place as one of the main tools for dynamic storytelling, especially in newsrooms – just look at the New York Times’ Most Visited Content of 2013 to see what we mean, with two maps in that list.

The Guardian, for instances, has been using interactive maps for years, and they keep getting better, as we can see on today’s opening pick, a visualization exploring the history of 100 years of passenger air travel. Keir Clarke, on Google Maps Mania, wrote about this work and his blog post title says it all: Mapped Visualizations Just Grew Up.
