This is Visual Journalism [7]

A special edition dedicated to Malofiej 21

March 21, 2013

Today’s edition of This is Visual Journalism is dedicated to the print infographics awarded  at Malofiej 21, an event that took place in the Spanish city of Pamplona between March 10th and 15th . The jury of the 21st International Infographics Awards choose among 1.191 submitted infographics , sent by 154 publications from 28 countries, granting a total of 147 medals (21 gold, 52 slver and 74 bronze). You can check out the full list here (pdf) and the full press release from the organization here.

Of course, Malofiej 21 was not only about the awards. A great panel of data visualization experts gathered there, and thanks to Alberto Cairo’s Twitter coverage we have no doubt it was another great success.

Let’s move on to some the infographics awarded this year, with a special notice to National Geographic, the Peter Sullivan / Best of Show Award in printed, and The New York Times, who took home 7 gold medals. We’ll be showing some other works from not so well-known publications from around the world, including from Brazil – the country with the most number of infographics submitted this year, after the U.S.

On a side note, it was great to see so many infographic designers that we had the pleasure to feature on our Portfolio of the Week section being recognized this year. Congratulations to Juan Colombato, Gerson Mora, Eduardo Asta, Adolfo Arranz, Antonio Farach, Carlos Monteiro and Marcelo Pliger!

So, without further ado, here is a small sample of the Malofiej21 awarded graphics:
