Revisiting the work of Raj Kamal, from India

November 5, 2013

Roughly one year ago, we had the opportunity to feature the portfolio of Raj Kamal, a talented designer based in India. Of course that one year is quite some time, so we decided to check out with Raj what he’s been up to. He kindly shared some of the new works he published since then, with the following comments:

“The idea about these graphics is to make a point – a point that relates to what’s happening around you, a point that sometimes shocks and provokes you, a point that prompts you to sit up and take notice. It’s an infographic that goes beyond just stating the facts. However, it’s not about creating works of art either. It’s about creating intelligent ways of conveying information that is simple and not intimidating.”

“The idea is to also differentiate it from what is being served in the name of infographics – more like fast food that is easy to create, cheap but without much meaning. I guess I want my work to be more practical and socially relevant and not just a fad that goes bust like the dotcom bubble.”

“What i have realized this year is that i am good but i want to be better. But unfortunately my country doesn’t have the environment nor brilliant minds like Edward Tufte or Gerson Mora. So the only way forward for me is to learn from them. Hence I am looking out for a job which would provide me with such an opportunity.”
