Welcome to our first Portfolio of the Week of 2014. That means that, until the end of the year, we’ll be bringing every week a little bit of the history and experiences of some of the most talented infographic designers in the world.
And we start by presenting you the work of Miguel Ángel Fernández, infographic designer at the Spanish daily newspaper Diario AS. This illustrator and graphic designer from Madrid studied at “Escuela Superior de Dibujo Profesional” of Madrid, where he soon stood out for the good quality of his illustrations.
His perseverance and dedication opened doors to important animation studios, getting to be a part of the Cartoon Network creative team, where he became established as a professional drawing designer.
He was hired when he was very young by “Diario As”, the company where he currently works. Miguel Ángel has been creating spectacular graphic designs for this newspaper for more than 13 years. These graphics stand out for their visual impact and a very unusual and clear way to explain the information.
His long experience in this field comes together with a remarkable editorial work, which he widened with the illustrations he created for the book “Los diez del Titanic” (Editorial LID) in 2012, book written by Javier Reyero, Nacho Montero and Cristina Mosquera. The very impressive four page graphic, which shows the inside of the Titanic, was also published in the ABC newspaper, where it has been considered one of the best infographies ever published in a book, due to its meticulousness and perfection.
Miguel Ángel has won the prestigious award “Premio Internacional de Infografía Malofiej” and collaborates with the European University of Madrid giving seminars on journalistic infography.
