Interactive Inspiration [93]

Recent data visualizations and interactive charts about the World Cup

July 4, 2014

Sports events such as the Olympics, the Superbowl or the FIFA Wold Cup are among the most popular topics explored visually by newspapers and online portals, eager to keep that big chunk of a very passionate audience close to them. Also, marketing agencies and other organizations try to take advantage of all the “buzz”, as they usually do with “newsjacking” tactics that include, in many cases, the use of infoposters and visualizations. And of course, all the designers that exercise their skills creating projects that can be as formidable and appealing as the best ones.

Ultimately, the idea of nurturing and exploring that exciting connection between sports and data visualization led to some amazing online places, such as Chart Ball, The Science of Sport, Sporting Charts, and so many others – a trend that was even more amplified with moves like FiveThirtyEight joining ESPN.

In the case of the 2014 World Cup, one of the most interesting places to check has been Tableau’s special blog “Where Data Meets Football“. Besides the visualizations around topics such as the teams performances and the history of the competition, you’ll find several interactive charts with data from Twitter, thanks to Datasift, a social data platform.

The opening picks of today’s Interactive Inspiration come from Where Data Meets Football, and in case you missed the previous World Cup data visualizations round ups, just follow these links:
