CartoDB's new Twitter Maps solution and the usual round up of recent interactive maps

For those following this weekly column dedicated to interactive maps, visualizations ofg geotagged tweets are nothing new. We’ve been featuring lots of them, lately, thanks to the work being done by Simon Rogers and the Twitter Data team, showing how the world discussed a certain topic or event on Twitter.

Well, now you too can create these types of maps, because CartoDB announced a new Twitter Maps solution, which lets you consume Twitter data (geotagged tweets) directly from the CartoDB interface. “We have integrated CartoDB directly with Twitter, so you can consume Twitter data very easily”, says the official release. The use seems quite straight-forward: Search for your term or hashtag, filter data as desired, and visualize them on a map. From there, use the standard CartoDB tools to create your visualizations and maps.

Our first picks go to two of the most recent maps coming out of Twitter, about – yes, you guessed it – the 2014 World Cup. But don’t worry! If you had just about enough of the whole soccer thing, there’s about two dozen projects here that cover other topics.

So, sit back, and enjoy this week’s featured interactive maps:
