Global mentions on Social Media

Visual breakdown of 100.000 messages on Twitter, Facebook and Google+

November 7, 2012

Barack Obama will remain as the President of the United States for the next four years – but you probably already know that, right? After all, the entire world was watching closely, anxious to know the outcome of a very disputed Presidential race.

As we all expected, Social Media played an important role for both campaigns. Obama kept collecting the good results from his experience back in 2008, and the Republicans tried to match that presence as much as they could. Dozens of infographics were made along the way – like these and these – , many of them breaking down the online behavior of Obama and Romney (you can see hundreds of infographics about the U.S. election on our Pinterest Board). One of the most recent visualizations focusing on the Social Media performance came from Shift8Creative  and Social Harvest, and it’s available here.

The interactive globe shows over 100.00 mentions of the candidates on Twitter, Facebook and Google+, between October 22, and November 5. The results can be filtered by Sentiment (positive and negative mentions) and by Gender. Hoovering the mouse on top of the candidates’ names allows you to compare them directly.
