This is Visual Journalism [112]

Information graphics from the pages of newspapers and magazines across the globe

May 21, 2015

Lots of interesting infographics in today’s chapter of “This is Visual Journalism”, and we’ll get to that just in a few, right after recommending a couple of articles that we believe are worth checking out, since they’re related with the central topic of this column.

First, Samuel Velasco of 5W Graphics shared a five minute video by painter James Gurney, with whom they worked for a job they did for Scientific American, about new species of tyrannosaurs that have been discovered in the last few years. The video shows a summary the process of creation for both illustrations that accompanied the graphic, and there’s a 40 minutes HD version available here and here for purchase.

The second recommendation is also about a behind the scenes, and also for a scientific publication, Nature magazine. This short post was published over at AXS Studio’s blog , about an editorial image for the 16 April 2015 issue of Nature to illustrate the cover story, “Positive ID: Towards better cancer cell-line authentication and experimental reproducibility”.

We really like this type of posts and even publish them regularly. So, in case you want to share the story behind your infographic, let us know, and we’ll be happy to feature it here on Visualoop.
