Like we explained last week, we are now dedicating this space here on Visualoop, every Tuesday, to promote the collective efforts behind the amazing projects we usually feature in our other round ups. These collectives can be operating either outside the newsroom environment, or inside it, as a department – which is the case of today’s featured profile.
After sharing the work being done by the folks over at Kiln.it, we’d like to present you another one of the finalists of this year’s Data Journalism Awards, in the category Best individual portfolio: the Berliner Morgenpost Interactive Team.
Last year, this regional German newspaper established a new interactive team consisting of a data journalist, a video journalist, two web developers and a designer. They look to find exclusive stories in their own databases, use new research methods and produce interactive visualizations and multimedia stories that take full advantage of the strengths of the web. And the feedback has been overwhelming.
“In 2014, the stories published by the interactive team were viewed and shared more than any other Berliner Morgenpost story.”, said to us Julius Troeger, one of the members of the team. “Stories are visited even internationally, which was a new experience for the Berliner Morgenpost as a local title.”
Below you have some of the recent interactive projects developed by the team (click through the image to access the interactive versions):
