Portfolio of the Week – Jorge Peñaloza

More than 20 years doing information design for print and media companies

Graduated as Designer of Graphic Communication at UAM Azcapotzalco, Jorge Peñaloza, our featured infographic designer of this week, started his career in newsrooms back in 1993, when he joined the founder team at Reforma newspaper. He was responsible for the department from 1998 to 2014.

Since then, he has won 11 awards from the Society for Newspaper Design, including a Silver award for Illustration and Design and two in the category of Breaking News. Jorge also earned an Honorable Mention in the Biennial of Design in Mexico in 2005.

In 2011 he created the Infographics of Soumaya Museum Plaza Carso and Loreto Square for Slim Foundation, and in 2012, along with Emilio Deheza, made infographics for London 2012 Exhibition Green Olympics economy in the Interactive Museum of Economics, MIDE. From 2013-2014 he produced various infographics and covers with Griselda Ojeda Igloo Design, with the creation of manual for Urban Mobility Policy Institute for Transportation and Development (ITDP).

He has published in several magazines such as Men’s Health, Cometa, BBmundo, Moi, Marie Claire, Cambio, TEC Review, among others, and in 2015, together with the studio of Eduardo Danilo Ruiz, Danilo Design Group, creates the style manual and implements the Department of Infographics at Capital newspaper. Also, he has been collaborating with Zen Comunicação in Portugal, since 2010.

Jorge currently continues to create infographics and illustration for various magazines and book covers, while collaborating with Danilo Design Group with various projects. And he’s a Professor of Infographics and Illustration in the Mexican School of Architecture, Design and Communication LaSalle, in addition to teaching the infographic module at the Gestalt College of Design (Xalapa Veracruz), for the Masters of Editorial Design.
