Our featured infographic designer this week is Aníbal Maíz Cáceres, who was born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, in 1976. He migrated to France in 1994, and since 2009 has been living in Mexico city. A member of our designer community, Anibal was kind enough to share a bit more about himself and his career, and of course, shows some of his work.
“One day, in November 2003, I was asked to replace Francis Nailler, one of the founders of the AFP infographics service. At that time I had a very little idea about what infographics was, but I’ve accepted the challenge. Result, I stayed for 5 years working as Infographics designer at the Agence France Presse (AFP), 3rd most important global news agency. There I had the chance -as sports big fan that I am- to cover some major events like the 2006 World Cup, the Euro 2008, the 2004 and 2008 Olympics, Rugby World Cup 2007, the french presidential and legislative elections, among other events.”
“In 2010, I became Web Design department sub director of the Mexican government. There, my main responsibilities were the design of still graphics and animated HTML graphics, motion graphics for the Presidency Website. The presidential website had at that time full W3C validated, so accesible to all.”
“Since the end of Calderon mandate, I work as an independent freelance graphic designer doing infographics and motion graphics for Visual.ly for clients such as NatGeo, Visa, Bosch, Sodexo or Quantas, to name some examples.”
“I also collaborate giving online lectures on infographics for journalism students of Universidad Abierta Interamericana of Buenos Aires, Argentina (Thanks to Norberto Baruch) and the Unversidad Pontificia Bolivariana of Medellin, Colombia.”
