Pode parecer fácil – afinal, motivos não faltam para conhecer o trabalho do Gerson Mora, como veremos nesta edição do Portfólio da Semana. E com toda essa atividade, seria mesmo de esperar que ele fosse uma ‘estrela’ do meio. Contudo, para quem teve o o prazer de conversar pessoalmente com ele, essa ausência de busca por protagonismo fica clara na forma apaixonada como fala da infografia: Algo que transcende os limites físicos (ou abstratos) das redações de jornais e revistas. Algo que nos rodeia, que está presente em todo o lado, e que ainda pode crescer muito, enquanto forma superior de comunicação aplicada aos mais variados contextos do nosso cotidiano.
Os prêmios e o reconhecimento dos colegas falam por si só da qualidade das suas infografias. Sim, porque você e muitos outros talvez não o conheçam, mas duvido que exista alguém trabalhando no meio editorial que não o tenha como uma referência. Do tempo que a infografia na verdade era aerografia, desenhada à mão sem qualquer tipo de software.
E para falar da pessoa? Nada melhor do que o próprio Gerson:
“Minha entrada no jornalismo foi em fevereiro de 1990, no jornal O Estado de São Paulo cobrindo férias e sem muitas pretensões de me estabelecer como fixo, eu não possuía nenhuma experiência. Em dois anos eu já chefiava o departamento de arte e fundava oficialmente o departamento de infografia.
Por falar em infografia o termo (entre 1990 e 1991) sequer existia, pelo menos eu não conhecia, tudo era produzido a mão, com aerografia, bico de pena, nankim, gouache e outros materiais que exigiam dedicação, quando o computador tomou conta das redações entre 1991 e 1993 parti para o estudo de 3D, Photoshop e Free Hand, foi um grande investimento em tempo, pois não existiam escolas, muito menos artigos e tutorias online, pois não tínhamos internet, e toda minha formação foi autodidata.
Em 1993 tive a oportunidade de trabalhar com um incrível professor, Jeff Goertzen que na época era o maior nome da área, através dele vi que a infografia era uma excelente oportunidade para desenvolver uma carreira sólida.
Acabei em 1995 me afastando da infografia, e na sequência fui editor de arte, diretor de arte e consultor em redações produzindo projetos gráficos, mas a infografia acabou voltando para a minha vida em 2006.
Hoje com 22 anos em jornalismo eu acredito que meu lugar definitivo é a infografia, já trabalhei com revistas com Galileu, Monet, PEGN, GQ, Focus, National Geographic Brasil, Quatro Rodas, Veja, Globo Rural , entre muitas outras, atualmente faço parte da infografia da revista Época. Também levei a infografia para empresas como: Natura, Fibria, do grupo Votorantin, Shell, Kia, Carrefour, entre outras.
Nestes quatro últimos anos anos vieram as surpresas profissionais, prêmios como Esso em 2009, SND em 2010, 2011, 2012 e 4 Malofiejs em 2010, 2011 e 2012, conquistados com a Época e Galileu. Tenho investido muito na consolidação da Maná e.d.i., (estúdio dedicado a infografia) onde trabalho com a Anna Luiza Aragão desde 2010 e vejo que ele já está posicionado – a prova disto são dois SND (2010 e 2011) e um Malofiej (bronze) na Categoria ciência,medicina e saúde, onde os premiados foram quatro trabalhos da National Geographic e um da Galileu, que nunca havia conquistado nenhum Malofiej.
As citações na Smashing Magazine e pela Gestalten no livro Informotion – Animated Infographics que apontou o infográfico da Usina de Fukushima (Galileu) como referência em clareza de informação, me anima a continuar buscando a melhora constante, acredito que isso demonstra que a infografia brasileira está evoluindo. Meu último upgrade profissional veio através do mestre Alberto Cairo (com quem trabalhei por dois anos na Época), ele cristalizou minha capacidade de conceitualizar e observar outras possibilidades da infografia.”
