This is Visual Journalism [70]

Overwhelming round up with +70 new World Cup infographics from across the globe

June 19, 2014

It’s been quite the day for visual journalism, here on Visual Loop. First, an exclusive interview with arguably the top infographic designer of 2013, the Spanish Hong Kong-based designer and illustrator Adolfo Arranz, currently working at the South China Morning Post.

And if that wasn’t enough, we now bring you a ‘small’ set of 70(!) new infographics about the 2014 FIFA World Cup, that is taking place in Brazil. This might sound a bit overwhelming but we received so many interesting works that we had to bring them all together. Our deepest thanks for all of you that sent us the links for their works, and keep on doing it, because this is a subject far from being exhausted.

You’ll see infographics from several countries, but our opening pick deserves a special attention, for the type of creative work that we almost forget that is possible to achieve in print newspapers. We’re talking about “The Times of Oman”‘s 3D World Cup Ball (in actual size), that allows readers to explore, discover, and enjoy the history of the 32 competing teams through data sets assembled in three-dimensional paper pyramids. Each spread of the team profile contains the template that readers can cut, paste, and piece together to form the ball, and we’ve included the explaining video shared by our friend Antonio Farach below.

Hope you enjoy the ride!
